What are dermal fillers?
In recent years there has been a significant increase in the demand for dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are non-surgical injections used to smooth wrinkles and fine lines or add volume to certain features of the face. At Chelsea Green Dental, we take extra care in ensuring the youthfulness of your face is restored by offering dermal fillers to treat a wide range of imperfections that are carried out by our highly experienced dentist in Chelsea.
Why do people choose dermal fillers?
There are many reasons why you would choose to get dermal fillers. The most common reason people want dermal fillers is to enhance their facial features and to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines in order to gain a more youthful appearance. By opting for dermal fillers, you are able to achieve a new natural look without having to undergo surgery, or having to pay thousands of pounds, as dermal fillers are much more affordable. Dermal fillers are also a suitable option for you if you would like to add volume to sagging skin that occurs due to old age, or to make your face appear more symmetrical. Sometimes, certain medications used to treat conditions such as HIV and AIDS can cause your skin to thin down, so you may consider getting dermal fillers to restore the volume of your skin after taking the medication.
What are the benefits of having dermal fillers?
As with all procedures, dermal fillers come with their risks; however, your dentist in Chelsea will discuss the risks associated with dermal fillers at your consultation so that you can make an informed decision of whether you would like to proceed with the treatment. Nevertheless, the benefits of having dermal fillers are many and this is supported by its ever-growing popularity. Unlike some cosmetic procedures, dermal fillers provide immediate results with little to no downtime. The treatment takes no longer than half an hour depending on the size of the treatment area and only needs to be carried out under a local anesthetic, meaning you can carry on with your day as normal after the treatment is complete. Dermal fillers contain a natural skin component called hyaluronic acid which is used to prevent signs of ageing; the dermal filler can help your body stimulate its collagen production thus slowing down the ageing process. Unlike cosmetic procedures that require surgery, dermal fillers are non-surgical; additionally dermal fillers are far less expensive than surgical procedures.
The process
The process of getting dermal fillers is fairly simple and quick. It begins with your dentist in Chelsea applying a local anesthetic to the treatment area in order to numb the area; this step takes around 15 minutes for the anesthetic cream to come into effect. After the treatment area is numbed, the dentist will then proceed to inject the filler into the area. Each treatment area may need to be injected a few times to ensure that a sufficient amount of filler has been injected equally into the area. The process is then complete and your dentist will advise you to avoid food or drink for at least one hour after the treatment and to not apply pressure on the area for the first twenty-four hours to avoid the filler from moving to areas of the face where it is not wanted.
